CRANFORD, NJ – WBB Research Institute (WBBRI) supported the publication of an article in OFID on the heretofore inadequately recognized connection between severe Covid-19 infection and sepsis. The article emphasizes that any delay in diagnosing the combination of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection with bacterial or fungal sepsis results in extremely poor outcomes.
WBBRI assembled a panel of experts, including its own Director of Medical Research, Dr. Richard A. Marfuggi, to explain not only the physiologic processes of Covid/sepsis but also the critical importance of deployment and adoption of rapid diagnostics and targeted therapeutics. With early detection, targeted treatment will decrease morbidity and mortality saving not only money but also lives.
